Diploma in Science Technology (Biology)

Overview:

The need for well-trained technical manpower has intensified as a result of the rapid increase in the number of science based industries and institutions that are making a big impact on development in Uganda and the world at large. Therefore, the programme: promotes sound fundamental laboratory practice, procedures and knowledge of scientific principles; trains technicians to work in scientific establishments such as research centres, educational laboratories and industries and ensures that students have adequate opportunities during their course of study to practice and develop their skills in carrying out laboratory techniques and procedures.

Target group:

The target group will be holders of:

• Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)
• Science Laboratory Technology (SLT) certificate
• Other Certificates in relevant fields.

Program Duration: Two years

Programme Structure:

The Diploma in Science Technology (Biology option) is run on full time programme for a duration of two (2) years.  Each academic year consist of two (2) semesters and after the first and second years there is a recess term for industrial attachment. Each semester consists of seventeen (17) weeks of which fifteen (15) weeks are for teaching and two (2) weeks for examination.  The recess term shall be twelve (12) weeks.

Career Prospects:

Graduates get employed in research institutions, education sector, medical sector, food production and processing, environmental sector.
