Bachelor of Science with Education (Biological)

Overview:

This programme trains BSc. Biology teachers to meet world-class standards of teaching and carrying out research in the biology field. The course is designed not only to meet the students’ study needs but also to meet the community biology challenges such as Applied Entomology and Parasitology; Human ecology; environmental issues and conservation; and management of natural resources.

Target group:

The applicant should have scored at least two principal passes in Biology, and either Physics or Chemistry obtained at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education examinations or its equivalent. For purposes of computing entry points, the advanced level subjects shall carry the following weights;

(i) Essential    – Biology and Chemistry,

(ii) Relevant      – Physics, Mathematics, Agriculture,

(iii) Desirable     – General paper, computer science

(iv) Others         – Any other relevant subjects

 

Program Duration: Three years

Programme Structure:

The programme is arranged in a way that, the introductory aspects that are central to biological sciences are covered in the first four semesters.  The courses in the last two semesters are highly specialised and of applied nature in the field. A BSc student will be required to undertake a twelve weeks school practise training at the end of second year and third year.
